Sequential Photography: Self Study

Coming towards an end with this weeks I would like to share a set of sequential images I made on my own as a self study task where I’m illustrating more on the skills and academic knowledge I developed  during my lecture of Week 1. After researching more on sequential image i would like to talk more on work done by Edweard Muybridge which has inspired in my set of sequential pictures.

According to me, the innovation of such sequential art work in late 18’s has inspired me a lot where Sir Muybridge came up with such a sequential image in black and white of a horse and human riding it. It would’ve been taught creating such sequences because of lack in techniques and technology but is is well describe how it was clicked, “ He used 24 cameras arranged along a track parallel to the horse path, 27 inches apart, controlling shutters by trip wires triggered by the horse's legs. Showing what had never before been seen by the unaided eye, the series is often cited as an early silent film. These images created a great stir in Europe and the United States”.(Mastering motion - the revolution of photographer Eadweard Muybridge (no date)).

My Self Practice on Sequential Image :

- ABOUT MY WORK

I have tried showing a funny sequence where I have used two of my bear brick toy. The sequence begins to create a scenario like the small bear is walking and the angry giant bear (the cannibalism bear) notices it and go behind the small bear. Casually walking small bears notices the giant bear following him in speed, the small bear runs for his life and trips over on the ground. Soon after the giant bear grabs the small bear’s hand and takes him to his house for his the dinner.

I clicked this picture in my apartment where i had to adjust lights for a shadow detail and clear background. I have used my personal IPHONE 12 PRO MAX - IOS DEVICE and set my work in contact sheet which is also know as contact sheet generator online and subjected as, “THE GIANT BEAR”.

To complete the final set of sequential image:

I recreated the contact sheet using Pixlr in a different format. Firstly, I opened pixlr generator and clicked on “Pixlr E”, then selected size for canvas which was A4 with the color white. Secondly, I clicked on page tab and rotated the picture horizontally, next I clicked on on layers and on the bottom right corner there was an  ‘+’ icon where got the option to add all sequential images at once. Lastly, I minimise the picture and aligned them together with the help of transform tool, afterwards i used the crop tool to remove the extra white background and used text tool to write my name with the font Georgia and Font size to 60 pts  to finalise my work  and download it.

Reflecting towards my art work I feel it’s effective on what we were taught during our lectures, although I enjoyed making the sequential images and its just the way I wanted in a very precise manner. I liked the way these bears look in a sequential photography. Thanking my digital arts teacher for teaching me such a lovely art and if I ever get a chance to do it again I would’ve loved it. Nevertheless using contact sheet and pixlr made my work much easy and fun.
