Research - Why is Sustainability important in Footwear
Sustainability in footwear is important because of the rising attention in the footwear fashion industries, companies and suppliers have moreover concerned with financial system and environment. In fashion footwear industry, sustainability is mainly embraced on the consumers aspects of sustainability and the directorial features of sustainability.- (Ciasullo, Cardinali and Cosimato, 2017). Due to this, I considered making my project design material sustainable to encourage healthy environmental as footwear industries are the most complex and leading factor damaging environment. So making sustainability as a main motive to reduce environmental impact and also in terms or economic.

Why does sustainability have a good effect in economy for footwear industries? Sustainability have good impact on footwear industries in terms of economy which aims at, "customer awareness, government promotions and regulations, understanding economic benefits, lowering manufacturing costs, improving quality, attracting direct foreign investment, and knowledge of the circular economy"(Moktadir et al., 2018). This is why I consider sustainability has a good effect on economy which inspires me for a circular economy in my future work as it works on recycled material which are cheap and aims as waste reduction.

After considering sustainable material for my work, I searched for related material which I can use for upper and sole in my design and why will it benefit my work. According to Better Shoes Foundation (n.d.), there are many sustainable material the are better alternative for shoe material like leather and sole. Beginning with leather, the better sustainable material are, apple skin which has a benefit of wide section of colours , similarly bioveg material is made up of recycled polyester from plastic bottle an has wide variety of colours. Next, there are cellulosic fiber and biocouture, which are sustainable and are compared with animal leather. Lastly, Pinatex and cork sheeting material, these are very light weight, soft, flexible textile and breathable material which is often used by Nike. On the other hand, there are sustainable material for outsole which are better alternative with benefit. Firstly, there is lactae hevea rubber and cork, these ae natural material which benefits by being biodegradable and light weight which makes gives them excellent comfort and shock absorbance. Lastly, we have bioplastics and EcoTPU, which is based on petroleum plastic making it renewable material and benefiting from their appearance and performance.
In order to go ecofriendly, I got to know about the advantages and more about the types of sustainable material which is mainly used by brands.
To sum up, from this research I got to know about the importance of sustainability in fashion footwear. Considering the materials which benefits the environment and positive effect on economy, I will be using in my major project design.
