Research: Colour Theory Palette

In this Blog I will be researching the colour theory/ Palette which I will be signing with on my major project/ initial design to attract my target market which is Gen-Z. According to Smith(2023), Generation Z, born between 1990s and 2010s, is expected to become the youngest fashion buyers, with approximately 12.7 million members in the UK in 2021. Due to this piece of research, I started growing my knowledge from the perspective of Gen-Z.

“According to a survey in summer 2022, by far the overwhelming majority of Gen Z consumers in the U.S. wear neutral colors, such as black, white, and grey. Pastels was the second most popular color scheme” (Smith, 2023)After seeing the research I am being firm of using monochrome palette for my design which mainly supports black, grey and white to drag attention for the young fashion buyers. As earlier I was looking towards carbon fiber, reflecting to my recent study I would like to experiment the use of carbon fiber as the strap on my design as it primarily feathers monochrome theory of black and grey.

Secondly, the color which initially comes in my thoughts for my collection of slides is black for the sole with an accent of red. Beginning with black, as we all know black is the colour which often delivers finest looks in every outfit no matter what is the colour of the outfit. Beside from this most of the famous brands like Balenciaga, Versace, Adidas and many more prefer to deliver their footwear in the colour black with some accent on other primarily colour like red, blue or yellow. Moreover, the colour black also resembles in footwear to deliver comfort and fit. “A well-fitted shoe enhances performance, prevents injuries, and ensures a comfortable run. Interestingly, black running shoes often deliver on both these aspects. While the color doesn’t technically influence the fit or comfort level of the shoe, black running shoes often use materials that provide superior cushioning and support” (Sara, 2023). Due to which even if a my initial design is not stylish a physiologically factor would always guarantee the fit and comfortability mark towards my targeted audience.

Regardless, the black soles works out well with my initial design, I am also considering Red for the sole for my project. Flashing towards my last term Digital Arts module research, Christian Louboutin was one of the footwear designer whom I had researched about in past terms blog post. Reflecting towards his work I was inspired by the chunky looks of the shoe he had designed. Moreover now I recollected my research and study for which I remembered that Christian Louboutin’s work as well feature red sole which I am looking at, in this term as colour palette for my design.

As I was looking through his designs, approximately most of his designs were unisex and had the featuring red sole with black, which was catching my eye. Next, I went to the about page where I got to know Louboutin’s approach towards red.“In early 90s in France, there were a lot of women wearing black who claimed they did not like to wear color. If you don’t like color, I thought, you might not wear green, but you will probably wear red on your nails, on your lips… That’s why I decided to stick to red!” (Louboutin, n.d). Moreover according to my sign off, my approach towards the target audience is unisex for which the red will play the perfectly.

Lastly, I feel creating my own colour theory / palette with the help of monochrome, black and some accent of red would really enhance my initial design of what I am plan for. Reflecting towards this piece of research I feel it is an success as I have got more than adequate knowledge on the colour I am looking at and will be using in future to my major project.
