In this blog I will be further researching about footwear by Sophia Webster which will help in developing my initial idea in the women’s collection of footwear for Belle Cherie, Cromwell as my major project.
Wildflower Espadrille Wedge sandals is from the collection of luxury wedge and espadrilles. According to Sophia Webster cited in Selfridges (n.d), “Stacked atop a towering wedge heel that's balanced with a comfy platform sole, their buttery leather construction is swathed in a metallic finish before being topped with blooming embellishments at the strap.”(Selfridges, n.d). These 4.7 hight heels aims to provide comfort to the women’s with ankle strap and platform sole. Mainly made up with leather, rubber and jute running over the wedge heels.
The reason why I have choose this footwear as my inspiration is because as I was going through my project brief; where I got to know I will be making a footwear collection for a family, for which I will be designing footwear collection targeted to men’s, women's and 2 children’s. In this research the footwear collection by Sophia Webster works out well by giving me loads of inspiration on how I can make luxurious women’s footwear. Now coming to the point why I choose platform wedge heels is because I have a aim to provide comfortable and luxurious look to my target market from which upon researching normal heels (pencil heels) looks trendy however the are not comfortable enough and there are higher chances to fall and provide discomfort if I choose normal heels/ pencil heels. “The larger area of flat shoe exerts less pressure as compared to the pencil heeled shoe. Due to greater pressure, the sand under pencil-heeled shoe sinks in greater depth and therefore, it is difficult to walk with a pencil- heeled shoe on the sand.” (Toppr, n.d). Due to higher the pressure on the balls of the feet, high heels / pencil heels are proven to provide painful experience for which I moved on to looking for better platform wedge heels.

Furthermore, while I was research about fashion women’s footwear I got to know about women's aged 29 to 35 tends more towards open toe footwear and are more into finding comfortable pairs for which to proceed with my developing of initial idea with wedge heels I got to researched more and I got to know Wedge heels are proven to be less painful than pencil / high heels. According to Weiner (2016), shoes that have a straighter platform will be softer on your arches and more beneficial to your feet. Since thicker heels are often more comfortable to walk in than tiny ones, wedges have an advantage over, pencil heels or stilettos. (Weiner, 2016).
Therefore after doing loads of research and developing ideas I came up with designing wedge heels for womens in the collection for Belle Cherie, Cromwell and I started looking at wedge heels designed by Sophia webster from which the airy and comforfatable 14cm Wildflower espadrille sandal inspired me with its basic colour approach with flower and ankle strap and comfortable appearance and material. Lastly, for the designs of my wedge I will be choosing the natural colors and after considering this further research post I will be more keen on design platform wedge heels for my major project in this term.
