3D - Wedge Heel - Digital Fabrication

In the beginning of this blog I would like to inform about the 3d printing workshop (digital fabrication) held on last term inspired me to try and work on with 3d printing this term for my major final project. In this term I will be 3d printing a wedge heel for women . This 3d printing held in Vijay Patel Building, De Montfort University.

As I am not very much proficient enough using AutoCAD I took an help of using a ready made version file of 3D  Wedge heels . Here is the link and image of the wedge heel I took help from as the shapes were same and I wanted to 3D print.

Next with the help of Nomad Application which I specifically Downloaded for this major project cost me around 20 pounds. With the help of this application I was able to removed the layers of chain straps.

Additionally to proceed with the 3d Printing this app was initial as I had too close the layers of the chain starp and export the file as an STL file. Which later after being exported into my device as an STL file I next had shared the STL file to the technician in Digital Fabrication workshop.

Next, the technician after receiving the file played with the wedge heel as suggested by me. The technician helped me in terms of getting the proportion correct like the height and the shoe size and the actual shoe size for the wedge heel was very small. I suggest the technician to change it to shoe size 7. From which next I checked on the specification for the footwear and the overall cost of making it. However the cost was very heigh for the piece of 3d printed plastic around 70 pounds. So I decided working with only one sole and next to make it more pocket friendly the technician helped me to change the filling inside the wedge heel from 20 to 10

This is the overall setting for the wedge heel with overall cost 25.63 pounds.

Here is the overall look and process on how it will be made.

This process will take 12 hours 59 minutes.

Here is a video of the overall setting and proportion number for this wedge heels.

After paying the bill the 3d printed started and Completed by approximately 13 hours.

Here is the video above on how the wedge heels were 3d printed.

Here is a view after 24 hours when 3d printing of wedge heel was completed. The technician took out the big chunks of plastic already and keeps those small bit to remove for me.

Next with the help of Pilar I removed the extra bits of plastic.

Here is how I removed the extra bits of platics

Here is my Final 3D printed wedge heel.
