Experiment Post : 01

Before starting with my making of my 3d prototype I tried experimenting embossing my brand logo into the leather for which I was suggested to buy an embossing tool. However before buying embossing tool I wanted to try some experiment on leather of how I can emboss my brand logo which is here bellow for reference:-

So beginning with the experiments to carry I here are the Tools which I will be working with :-

• 2 Wire
• Pilar 
• Wire cutter
• Point Stamping tool

Next, I tried playing with the small wire and created an oval and with the help of big wire I created an oak leaf . However upon making for the first time these both were not perfect in shape as the oval got created very small, while on the other hand the oak leaf was looking nice but it lagged with the proportions.

After playing for some more time I thought to give it a try even though the shape was not perfect I wanted to try this experiment so that if the results are bad I would head on buying embossing tool and experiment with that. But if the results are better I might stick to this experiment and work on wire more  to get my logo embossed.

Over here in the picture above I trying putting the wire on leather and then with the help of a cardboard I applied pressure above it so that the wire leaves its mark as a depressing- crease on the leather giving it an embossed finish. However after applying pressure for 10 minutes straight the results were just not that worth for which beside the first experiment I tried making another oval shape with the help of that stamping tool in the above picture. Overall, I spender around 20 minutes on such a small piece for which i feel it was very time consuming and the results were not that effective.

After seeing the results from the previous picture. I had hopes that this will work for which next I tried different. In this experiment I tried soaking the leather inside warm water, after drying and rinsing it properly I quickly kept the oak leaf wire and applied pressure. Still beside pressing it hard for roughly 10 minutes the results were not that satisfactory as you can see in the above picture .

Next, I patiently waited for a while on what to do and suddenly this idea developed of heating the wire with the help of a lighter and then applying pressure and  after 5 minutes I got this results. This experiment was satisfactory as I understood the process. However over here I had not properly heated the wire for which results were still satisfactory. Now I will try again with applying more heat and then pressurize the wire on leather with that steel plate bellow that past.

This experiment overall got developed and now I have a nice embossed leaf on the leather. Overall I am completely satisfied with the process and the results. And in future I will be working on wire to get a precise logo with wire that I will be using in my final 3d prototype for this final major project.
