Reflection - Art Portfolio 02

In this third term or Art Portfolio 02 we started with a new concept of the art portfolio, which means the concept was different from the last term art portfolio. This term in art portfolio was more interesting and new because we all were allotted different task for the redevelopment of the city of Cromwell. The brief for this project is to rebuild a city called Cromwell in Connecticut because of the pandemic. As a footwear designer, this project help me to step out of my comfort zone because in the previous two term's I had made collections as a part of the project assessment own my own theme, but this term, the project was decided and given us in a brief by our tutor. In contrast, in terms to unleash my creativity and do things differently this project brief was very interesting as I was about created footwear for an entire family and to do differently, in this term I was guided to make kids shoe, women’s  heel and men’s formal shoes. Nevertheless, the new things give me new experiences and unlocked new knowledge to create a different thing, not only a collection that is based on my preference, but StarliGht collection for Belle Cherie will represent something unique and better than what I had done in my previous term’s. The current project makes me more focused on developing ideas for the concept and thinking of the symbols that represent the city of New Cromwell, Connecticut. Moreover, the finalized 2D design had an polychromatic colour theory and the logo represented one of the symbol from Connecticut which was White Oak Tree. The logo was embossed in each of my 2D design which worked out pretty well.

In this term, I successfully escaped my comfort zone and learn new things and concepts, develop the design with loads of sketches and planning with proper sourcing of materials and executes the 3D design with digital fabrication (3d printing) to create a professional footwear portfolio on the website. Not only that but to finish the module on time, I needed to organize my time wisely, which benefited me with no procrastination and it prioritized responsibility as I understood the module. Moreover, I improved my sewing skills through this term, got to know much about digital fabrication and created  womens heels all by myself, but I still, I had faced difficulties in terms of making 3D model which were redoing my stitching and frame it according to the last/ sole which I had 3D printed from the workshop of DMU, Vijay Patel Building.

In terms of presenting my work, this terms I had used a background from the Belle Cherie Store which was created by Nada. This background showcases footwear and enhanced the final looks of my footwear design gallery. The idea of using this background to present my 3D prototype of Juliet was successfully as it was looking unique and different from which I did in the previous terms.

In conclusion, this module helped me prepare for my new journey in university for footwear. Besides, all the challenges, successfully and unsuccessful experiments and development I was able to learn from my failure and my motivation of making this work out well. The final outcome, the research’s and everything has developed me so well that I feel I am completely prepared for university. I may put the knowledge and abilities I've gained over this foundation year to use when I attend university to achieve academically. As I have learned how to refine my thoughts and creativity in this lesson so that I may make unique and challenging artwork.
